Dear Parents,

We’ve been receiving concerns regarding walkers, especially on rainy days. Please note that there is no specific rainy day dismissal. The walker car signs that were issued are intended to be used only in the event of a severe weather alert issued by Harris County. This could include threats like Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Flash Floods, or Lightning Storms, as identified by the Harris County Emergency Management Team and Spring ISD. If such an alert is issued, walkers will be held at the school, and parents will need to pick them up through the car rider line. Otherwise, students will remain walkers, regardless of rain.

Friendly Reminders:

  • Check the weather before your child leaves for school.

  • Prepare your walker for rainy days.

  • Pack a poncho and an umbrella for your child.

  • Consider purchasing rain boots for extra protection.

  • Make sure your child knows their route and home address.

  • Plan for bad weather by ensuring an umbrella or poncho is in their backpack.

  • Have identified friends or family that walk with them.

  • Make sure your child knows your cell phone number and full name for emergency purposes.

  • Send children with water bottles during months of extreme heat.

  • Make sure your child has the key, keycode, or garage code to get into the house.

  • Teachers are not responsible for waiting on walkers, regardless of their age or grade! (Circumventing the car rider line is not allowed. Parents, please be on time to meet your walker at the designated intersection.)

Safety Tips:

  • Discuss the path home with your child, ensuring they go directly home.

  • Reinforce the importance of Stranger Danger awareness.

  • Remind your child about appropriate behavior and interactions with others.

  • Review walker safety, especially when crossing streets and intersections.

  • Teach your child how to handle situations involving strangers approaching them.

Our staff is responsible for supervising walkers from the school grounds to the first stop sign in the neighborhood. Please help us protect your child by filling out the appropriate transportation forms and reviewing these safety tips at home.
